Alfred war seit einigen Jahren nicht mehr publizistisch aktiv, in den 1990er und 2000er Jahren hat er vor allem in den französischen Zeitschriften Tradition und Soldats Napoléoniens Spuren hinterlassen - entweder durch die Bereitstellung von Bildmaterial aus dem Archiv Alfred und Roland Umhey, aber auch durch eigene Artikel. Für mich bleibt vor allem ein Werk positiv mit ihm verbunden, nämlich die Herausgabe und kritische Aufbereitung des Freiberger Manuskripts in einer sehr aufwändigen Ausgabe. Er hatte den Wunsch, auch das Frankfurter Tagebuch aus dem Nachlass eines britischen Sammlers in ähnlicher Art und Weise zu veröffentlichen, leider kam es nicht mehr zu dessen Umsetzung.

Alfred Umhey war sichtlich angeschlagen seit dem Tod seines jüngeren Bruders Roland, dem er nun nach schwerer Erkrankung gefolgt ist. Die Beerdigung findet am 17. November in Schwetzingen statt.

Zur Erinnerung an ihn und seine publizistische Tätigkeit habe ich zwei Artikel aus Tradition und Soldats Napoléoniens beigefügt.

Another view, this time some very very old models, a French 8# battery of the period. My formations are 3 bases for '8' real guns- represented by 8 gunners over the three bases- containing two 8# pdrs and one 6" or 5.5" howitzer, per normal organisation.

Of course every battery needs its' train- early always economies make this 4 horses only.

This infantry Division, not yet complete, will comprise all 20 battalions as the real force did. Additional 'Corps troops exist, scattered among all types to make playable armies. Sorry I forgot to add that these are all Miniature Figurines ® and many, like the artillerymen, have been customised by me personally (ie these men started dressed in shakos!).

A question may be raised- does it comply to the findings of the great PLD report? Well, this too requires further 'Inspection'!

In addition to the French, in the 1990s when wargaming was declining in popularity and my comrades dispersed all over the country, and some overseas (Australia/ UK/ Germany etc.) I decided I must create my own enemy armies as well to bring in new recruits to play.

Thus -this comprised two components (that caused a time warp)- old 1970s 25/ 28mm Hinchliffe and 'new' Foundry Miniatures for 1805 Austrians.

This, in part, is a rather infamous unit- being the only complete Austrain infantry regiment present at Austerlitz. I have completed only the 6th Bn and the Grenadier Bn to date, and in fact only ast year.I have about 10 battalions and various support troops spread over the Avant-Garde of Kienmayer (Dockturov), and the 4th Column under FML-Kollowrath Miloradovic.

Another cause, adopted due to the above force, in 2020 I determined that it was a falsehood to depict the KuK and ignore their allies, the Russians. So I formed a formula whereby the two main Austrian bodies, were to receive as well those Russian corps that were most adjacent and active in the battle. Therefore seiously subjective, as I cared to create formations one at a time.

In 2023 I determined a personaility figure who intrigued me, so was born with help of a Russian specialist-

This is the first Russian artillery I'd completed in full. The Batterie-Compagnie in the centre of Austerlitz battle.
Another significant elemnt was the two Russian jaeger battalions (two separated from their mother body)- of Doctorovs First Column and engaged at Tellnitz- the 3rd Bns of 5th and 7th Eger (Jaeger). IMG_7922x.jpg

I have used two different model makers to depict these guys. The 7th in 1800 bicornes (Eureka Mins), and the 5th (Foundry Miniatures) in the temporary issue 'tophat' shakos in 1802.

2024 brought further gaming diversions and opportunity to purchase surplus painted troops from others allowed me to develop ideas. Here is a sample repainting of some very old, very pale Bavarians... I trust the slight dark blue wash improves the overall effect and I shall continue to 'correct' a number of errors and inconsistences as time passed.

Wondering if someone can give me some clue as to their possible ownership.

I just note that a number of other elements of foot were not quite painted correctly either, but this regiment could become a player for me sooner anyway.

I will change out the flag obviously, for an 1806/07 composite force it is intended to be a part of.
