Jena
My men were camped in the Prussian lines, and their seemed to be, from my point of view, a total break down in communication amongst the prussian and allied troops. We were not made aware when rations would be made available and where to collect passes from etc. when I asked the organisers in the main registration tent, I was asked who I was registered with, III corps, but where are you camped, in the Prussian lines, so I go and talk to the Prussians, and explain who we are, and I am told to talk to the french - madness.
As far as I could assertain their was no Prussian army breifing, unlike III corps. I knew exactly what the french were doing, but no ideas about the Prussians and allied troops. We were asked at last minute to ride with the prussians, no major problem as long as we are still with the French camp and have horses, but I had no idea at all what was happening as a Unit commander. If we had ridden, their would have been 8 cavalry on the field with no idea what was happening.
Probably a very different event for the infantry and artillery, and those not struggling with poor german. I am gald that 99% of those who attended had a good eventrost:
