Gentlemen,
I am confused by what I have read more recently about their relations compared to many accounts before now that implied an implacable and united alliance.
Several texts have inferred that 'France' was a friend of Saxony and therefore making steps to also 'liberate' them. Is this mere propaganda and smoke screen?
One thing that drew my attention was a plea from a Marshal (I forget which) to EMG Berthier or Napoleon, that the allied Bavarian troops be 'controlled' and not permitted to make extractions (food/ wine/ money etc.) from the Saxon populace. The response was along the lines of repudiation of such actions and the Saxons were 'friends' of the French and therefore deserved protection, not abuse.
Any thoughts/ clarifications please,
my thanks davew
